Second Life

The Ecole de Langue Varadi - Institut de Linguistique Appliquée has opened in Second Life.

Second Life (indicated as SL) is a virtual world in three dimensions imagined and created by its residents, represented by their “avatars”, their alter ego, interactive actors teleguidded by the users. Thanks to SL, currently visited by 12 millions users, you can participate in an event independently of where you are in the world and intervene in real time in discussions and exchanges, as if you were there.

The teaching options offered by Second Life permit eliminating obstacles related to distance, and offer realtime personalized language courses worldwide from the language teaching center of Ecole Varadi, based in Geneva. The first language school in Europe to exploit these new educational animation techniques, Ecole Varadi opens its language teaching center in Second Life to offer personalized programs in 33 foreign languages all over the world and in answer to the many requests from abroad.

The Ecole Varadi, active since 25 years in Geneva, teaches 33 foreign languages with a method known as “Around a language in 80 hours”, which permits taking a beginner to a general autonomy level in 80 lessons. The same method will be used for the courses delivered through Second Life.

The virtual classroom of Ecole Varadi in Second Life is Piazza San Marco in Venice, reproduced with high fidelity by metafuturing, one of the leading Second Life developers.

You can sign up and create an “avatar” on the Second Life website. Then you will have to download and install the Second Life client software, avaliable for Windows XP-Vista, MacOSX and Linux. The system will automatically lead you through an introductory training course of approximately 30 minutes where you will learn the basics of this new online environment.

To sign up for a course in Second Life, please choose the option “Second Life” in the registration form.

To reach the virtual classroom, teleport to the island “metaXLR8 Park 1” in Second Life. The easiest way to teleport is by clicking here. Clicking this link will activate a “slurl” that will be passed to your Second Life client software.
